I couldn't believe my damned mind once I heard that Capcom was actually pushing past the million variations of Street Fighter II and would finally be launching the third installment of the main series.
Street Fighter III did not disappoint. The animation was mind-blowing, the amount of characters was fantastic, the music was more complex and so much more crisp. And, whoa, did it feel fast. Impossibly fast. It was the first time that I felt like there really, truly was some different fighting styles and systems that took time to get used to rather than the same templates that the previous games used. To this day, Third Strike remains my favorite fighting game.
It's always a blast when my friends and I find time to battle and bring it all back. Always with the white knuckle matches.
As I said, the music is a lot deeper and thicker here than Capcom had previously produced. There is a lot going on, and though the styles are varied across the games, there is a very Hip-Hop feel to Third Strike in particular. It's my favorite of the three, with Canadian rapper Infinite providing some real dope bars as the fights progress (he also got to be the announcer voice for the game - talk about an honor for Capcom to bestow!).
